Larger companies and institutions often have sufficient capacity and resources to adequately secure themselves, but smaller organisations do not always know how to protect themselves against cyber attacks.

Needs assessment
Therefore, commissioned by the Metropolitan Region of Rotterdam-Den Haag (MRDH), The Hague Security Delta (HSD) and Leiden Bio Science Park (LBSP), a study is being carried out into the need for a cyber resilience centre for the Life Science & Health sector in South Holland. This centre is intended to support parties in the chain in increasing cyber resilience through awareness, advice, knowledge sharing, training and victim support. The costs depend on the package needed, but are limited in proportion to the consequences for your company in the event of a successful attack.
Although cyber threats are increasing, many parties are still hardly aware of the risks. A significant proportion of Dutch companies and institutions have been attacked with ransomware in recent years. In the event of a successful attack, criminals not only gain access to competitively sensitive business data, but also to the data of customers, staff and students, for example.
Impact on the company:
- More than a quarter of them will have to halt their business activities for several days, which will result in a significant loss of turnover.
- Over half of those affected experience reputational damage.
- Although paying a ransom is advised against by the government, research by insurer Hiscox shows that more than half of the companies attacked pay to regain access to hostage data (an average of almost €96,000, but often considerably more).
- Paying the ransom did not always have the desired effect: the data of half of the Dutch companies was leaked and/or sold after all, and over a quarter was later attacked again with ransomware.
