This year, together with Leiden University, the municipality started a project to improve the quality and accessibility of the Leiden Bio Science Park (LBSP). It is transforming from a business park into an innovation district: an area to work, study, live and meet. The municipality says it considers good accessibility essential. It is also the largest innovation district in the field of Life Sciences and Health in the Netherlands.
Leiden wants to improve the LBSP by means of the “Hartlijn”, the bicycle and pedestrian path that connects all the central places. They also want to construct parking facilities at the edge of the area and improve accessibility by public transport. In the new traffic situation, traffic on the Hartlijn will have priority over other traffic. The intention is to give it a unique appearance through the use of color and a strip of medicinal plants. Within the project there is also attention for biodiversity and climate adaptation. The project is expected to last until 2024.
