During Construction Day on 8 June, you will have the unique opportunity to visit the ED under construction. LUMC’s Building Department will open up the new building and give you the opportunity to get an idea of the complex combination of technology and medical care within a specialised department.
Works
Following demolition work at the old site, the standard LUMC renovation of the facade took place (insulation, cladding and glass surfaces). A new street wall including public toilets, access doors and new fire separation were realised. Within these contours, a completely new 3,600 m2 Emergency Department was built, incorporating the latest technology and medical requirements. The delivery of this department will take place this summer The new A&E complex is designed to provide optimal and innovative patient care with higher patient satisfaction than before There are several care areas: the acute rooms, high care and low care area and the acute short stay area.

New Emergency Department
After completion of the new Emergency Department (SEH) at LUMC, emergency care will be available for the catchment area of the Zuid-Holland North region with a catchment area of about 530,000 inhabitants. During the renovation of the Emergency Department, an interim location on the site between the railway line and the LUMC building will be used. Work on this temporary facility started in June 2020.
