Whatsapp Neighbourhood Watch on Science Park

The business association OVBSP has asked Martien Hogewoning to set up a Whatsapp Neighbourhood Watch group.

Leiden Bio Science Park is an inspiring and beautiful campus to work, study or stay on. As entrepreneurs (the OVBSP), we also want to make the park as safe as possible, and numerous measures and initiatives have been taken to achieve this. For instance, we have collective surveillance (Huschka group) that patrols the park and we also have a quality mark for safe business premises (KVO-B certificate). This regulates the most important preventive safety issues for public areas.

Yet the business association wants to go a step further in terms of security. The Leiden Bio Science Park has several buildings housing laboratories. It is good to realise that there may be an increased risk and therefore important to be able to inform the surrounding area and surrounding buildings in case of incidents. By working more closely together (good neighbour principle), we can continue to ensure that in the event of incidents everyone is informed in time and the right measures can be taken.

Therefore, the Leiden Bio Science Park will be divided into a number of logical clusters in which “neighbourhood watch apps” can inform their neighbours about incidents. Apart from incidents, the app is of course also suitable for reporting abuses to each other. Think of nuisances, thefts, burglaries, etc.

Martien Hogewoning is well known at the Science Park. he was park manager from 2006 – 2009 and knows the park like the back of his hand. Martien will approach all companies to take the necessary steps. Through the newsletters of the OVBSP and Leiden Bio Science Park Foundation, we will keep you informed about the progress of this project. You are of course free to contact Martien Hogewoning yourself. You can email martienhogewoning@gmail.com and/or call on 0614002294 to do so.
